For our second survey, we wanted to get a sense of how beta testers envisioned our new site as well as what they liked about their favorite websites from around the Internet. We asked four questions:
- What are your favorite websites in general? What do you like about them (layout, search, navigation, promotions, articles, etc.)?
- What website do you think OCLS could use as inspiration for the new website? Why?
- What do you want to see happen in the new website?
- Have you had experience with other library websites (public or academic)? What did you like about their websites? What did you dislike?
Many of the responses mentioned the following key concepts when explaining why the respondent liked their favorite sites as well as what improvements they would like to see in the new website:
- Easier to read/use
- More visual
- Mobile optimization
- Better search
We'll be working hard during the next phase of the project to build navigation that is easy to use and we will be utilizing our beta tester's feedback to do so. We plan to do card sorting and usability tests in order to find labels and structure that make sense to our patrons.
